FREE Webinar: What if I Say the Wrong Thing and Hurt Someone?! Building Confidence in Trans Allyship

12:00 PM - 1:00 PM PST

Many people want to be supportive of trans and non-binary people, but get caught on the same difficult thought: “What if I make a mistake and hurt someone?”

It’s a common worry, and an understandable one. Most people do not want to cause harm, say the wrong thing, or make someone feel unseen or disrespected. But when that fear has too much power, it can lead to hesitation, overthinking, avoidance or silence - which can make allyship feel much harder than it needs to be.

In this free, interactive TransFocus webinar, we’ll explore one of the most common barriers to trans allyship and what it can look like to move through it. Using our Stress-Free Allyship approach, participants will be guided through a dialogue-based process that helps uncover the assumptions behind this fear, open up new perspectives, and build confidence in how to recover when mistakes happen.

This session is not about memorizing the perfect script, but about learning how to stay present, respond thoughtfully, and keep showing up even when something does not go perfectly.

What You’ll Learn:

  • Why the fear of making mistakes can become such a strong barrier to allyship

  • How hesitation and avoidance can get in the way of genuine support

  • Why trans and non-binary people are not a monolith, and why responses to mistakes will vary

  • How mistakes can become opportunities for learning, repair, and deeper relationships

  • A practical inquiry-based method for working through this and other stressful thoughts

  • How to recover after making a mistake without spiralling into shame or defensiveness

Why This Matters:

A lot of allyship education focuses on what people should say or do. That matters, but it is only part of the picture.

People also need space to work through the thoughts that keep them stuck. When fears about mistakes go unexamined, they can stop people from engaging at all. By learning how to question and move through those fears, allies can become more present, responsive, and confident in real interactions with trans and non-binary people.

Who Should Attend:

  • Aspiring allies who want to feel more confident supporting trans and non-binary people

  • Managers and leaders supporting diverse teams

  • Human Resources and People & Culture professionals

  • Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion leads in organizations

  • Anyone who has ever worried about getting it wrong and wants to keep learning
